Farm, AAA and Majors Families,

We are excited to see you for National’s pre-season tryout/skills evaluation session this Saturday, March 23, from 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m. at The Doghouse indoor baseball facility at 132 Railroad Ave., Albany.

The address is:

132 Railroad Ave.
Albany, NY 12205

The building is on the left when driving toward the back of Target on Railroad Avenue, and the entrance to the facility faces the parking lot (not the road) directly across from the entrance to Camp Bow Wow in the building next door.

Timeline

Farm Division: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

AAA & Majors Divisions: 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.

What this is

Saturday’s session is simply to give the league an opportunity to assess players’ skill levels and to assist in rostering teams that are as evenly matched as possible. This is especially important for our Farm players just rising up from Rookie, as this will be their first exposure to something that looks like real baseball. We do not expect Farm players to know how to do the things that were not taught in Rookie ball, but this will help the coaches understand which skills their teams need to develop. The need to balance the teams as much as possible is one of the reasons we cannot honor coaching requests at Farm and above.

Players will be asked to go through three stations where they will practice hitting, fielding and throwing. As they do this, they will be observed by helpers – typically older players who have aged out of National.

What this isn’t

Something to worry about – for them or you! Players of all skill and experience levels are welcome at National, and every player will be assigned to a team.

What you need

Sneakers, your baseball glove and a bottle of water. Players also are welcome to bring their own Little League-compliant bats and helmets if they choose, but that is not required.

Please make every effort to join us on Saturday to help us build our teams and to have your players meet some of their future teammates.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to playbaseball@nllalbany.org.
